Why does my new washer make my clothes smell sour?

it sounds like a powder detergent issue to me. i have a newer front loader(had it about 9 mo already) haven't got any oder problems. i use wisk HE liquid. have also used several other HE liquid brands with no problems at all. i'd change to liquid HE. i doubt that its the machine.
